This policy explains how FILMIC handles information when you use our service.
Information we collect
We collect your name, username, email address, profile photo URL, and FILMIC user ID. We store the posts, Shouts and comments, direct messages, photos and videos you upload, preferences, and accounts or film pages you follow.
When a film search returns no FILMIC page, we save the search text with your user ID so the team can understand missing catalogue entries and review pages that are later created.
On Android, if you enable push notifications, we store your device's push token to deliver them. The iOS app does not use this Android push-token flow.
How we use information
We use information to run FILMIC, sign you in, provide notifications, support safety and moderation, and improve the service. We also use server logs to troubleshoot problems and protect the service. These logs may include request timing and error details. We keep server logs as long as needed for security and troubleshooting because the codebase does not define a fixed retention period.
Service providers
FILMIC uses service providers to operate specific features:
- Clerk handles sign-in and account sessions and may receive the IP address forwarded with authentication requests.
- Replit-hosted database and storage hold account records and uploaded media.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers Android push notifications.
- Wikidata receives film-catalogue search text when we search its catalogue.
- GIPHY receives the text of GIF searches.
- Google receives sign-in information when you choose Google sign-in.
- Google Fonts serves web fonts when your browser loads them.
- For link previews, FILMIC's server fetches URLs you submit to retrieve preview information. The site at that URL receives the server's request.
Ads, sale, tracking, and location
We do not sell personal data, show ads, or track you across other companies' apps or websites. FILMIC does not collect your device's location.
Account deletion and data retention
You can request account deletion in Settings in the web app or iOS app. Submitting your request starts a deletion process and signs you out. We begin processing shortly after your request; deletion is not immediate and cannot be undone. Your profile, posts, comments, applause, saves, follows, blocks, notifications, frames, behind-the-scenes items, film updates, and settings are deleted, including posts and updates you made on film pages you do not own.
After deletion, your first name may remain visible, marked “(deleted)”, next to messages you sent to other people. Attachments you sent are removed from our storage and shown as “Attachment removed.” Messages other people sent to you may remain visible to them as coming from a Deleted user.
Photos, videos, and other uploaded files are removed from our storage within 30 days unless a file is still used by content that remains, such as an attachment in a message another person received.
Reports about content or users that you filed, or that were filed about you, may be kept for up to 12 months in a form that does not identify you, to help keep the community safe. After that, they are deleted.
We may keep a minimal record of your sign-in identifier, without your name, email, or content, for as long as needed to prevent an account from being recreated by mistake or abuse and to meet legal obligations. If you signed in with Apple, we revoke the Sign in with Apple connection before removing your sign-in identity.
If you own a film page or are its sole page administrator, you must transfer ownership or delete the page before requesting account deletion.
Backups may keep copies for a limited period until they are overwritten on a rolling schedule. For help with account deletion, contact filmicglobal@gmail.com.
You can request an export of your information and manage privacy preferences, blocked accounts, and muted accounts from Settings.

FILMIC is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
